The Foreign National Information Form (FNIF) is used to
determine whether you are exempt from certain United States taxes (i.e. Federal,
Medicare and Social Security withholdings). The U.S. has tax treaties with a number of
countries. These treaties allow residents and/or citizens of other countries to be taxed
at a reduced rate, or provide exemption from U.S. taxes on certain items of income
received from sources within the United States. FNIF must be completed within the first
two weeks of employment. Failure to complete FNIF on time may result in your paycheck
being inaccurately taxed. Please complete your FNIF in the Service
Center.
See Policy 2-12, Tax Filing of Non-resident Aliens. You must be connected to the CHOP Network to view this policy via PolicyManager.
I-94
I-94 - All nonimmigrants are issued an I-94 upon each admission
to the US. If you are a nonimmigrant, please remember to check your I-94 after each
entry to the US through this website. If you are entering via a land border, check your
paper I-94 to ensure the information is accurate. Please report any errors on your I-94
immediately to CBP and OIVS. See the FAQ, "What should a traveler do if he or she was
admitted incorrectly to the United States?"
Residential Address Change
Nonimmigrants in H, TN, O-1 and E-3 status must notify USCIS
within 10 days of moving. Form
AR-11, Change of Address, can be completed online. If you
are a J-1 Exchange Visitor, you must update your address with OIVS within 10 days of
moving by submitting a Service
Center request. If you are in F-1 status, please notify
your Designated School Official (DSO). Be sure to also update your address in your
Workday profile.
Passports
Nonimmigrants are required to maintain a valid passport.
Expiring passports should be renewed as soon as possible, due to potential delays
resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Please be aware that CBP officers have the
discretion to shorten the I-94 admission record to match one's passport expiration date.
I-9 Reverification
Employers are required to reverify an employee's work
authorizing documentation (this is not applicable to US citizens and Lawful permanent
residents who presented a Form I-551, Permanent Resident or Alien Registration Receipt).
Reverification should occur no later than the actual expiration date listed on the work
authorizing documentation. To request I-9 reverification, please submit a Service
Center request.
